We’re all buying, and selling

We’re buying and selling each other

We’re all trading, negotiating our precious time together

We’re buying five and selling five

But we’re not breaking even

We’re merchandising and advertising and someone is believing

It’s a wonder that we ever let this start

Now it might not stop until it falls apart

We’re all speculating and calculating

For markets we’re competing

We’re spending on defending while ol’ history’s repeating …

 

Academy Potluck No. 1

Potluck literally means “luck of the pot” in reference to feeding unexpected guests. Our modern interpretation recalls a community meal consisting of offerings that range from comforting to mysterious. This week on melodically challenged, we’re serving up some of the tastiest new poems found at the Academy of American Poets in our show “Academy Potluck Vol. 1.” Some of our poets this week include Karisma Price, Regan Good, Leila Chatti, Ina Cariño, and John S. Blake. You'll also hear music by Tab, Monk Turner, Jim Rooster, and more.
